Pick the number of input belts and output belts and the matching design opens with its preview, size, belt tiers and string. The collection has every belt combination from 1 to 9 inputs and 1 to 9 outputs except 1 to 1, plus larger ones such as 4 to 12, 16 to 16 and up to 128 to 128. If a combination is not in it, the lookup says so and shows the nearest configurations instead of an empty result.

Lane balancers

A lane balancer evens out the left and right lanes of a belt; a belt balancer evens out whole belts against each other and leaves each belt's lanes alone. Switch the lookup to lane mode for lane balancers. They exist for 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 belts; there is no 5, 7 or 9-belt lane balancer in the collection.

Balancers for yellow, red, blue and turbo belts

Almost every design is built from express (blue) parts. Each one lists the underground tiers it works with: most say red, blue and turbo, some only blue and turbo, and a few only blue. The tier filter keeps the designs listed for your tier and tells you how many it hid. For yellow belts, 19 configurations have a separate yellow version under their other layouts, and 1 to 2, 2 to 1 and 2 to 2 come in yellow, red and blue.

Space Age turbo belt balancers

Turbo belts come with the Space Age expansion. Any design listed for turbo undergrounds can be built with turbo parts; choose turbo in the tier filter to see them. Nothing else in a balancer depends on Space Age.

Throughput unlimited balancers

A throughput-unlimited balancer lets any group of inputs reach any group of outputs at full rate, so it keeps full speed when some belts are empty or backed up. A balancer without that property still splits evenly, but an internal bottleneck can slow it when only part of it is used. 38 of the 111 designs are marked throughput unlimited; use the filter to show only those.

Balancers for a main bus

On a main bus some lanes are often only partly used, so the throughput-unlimited designs are the safer choice there: a 4 to 4 throughput-unlimited balancer keeps the remaining belts at full speed when one of its inputs is empty. Where every belt always runs full, a smaller balanced design does the same job.

How belt balancers work

Every balancer is built from splitters. A splitter takes equally from its two input belts and puts an equal share on its two outputs, so chaining them spreads items from every input to every output. That is why power-of-two sizes such as 4 to 4 and 8 to 8 are compact, while counts like 5 or 7 need more splitters and sometimes loops that feed belts back in.

Is there a Factorio balancer book?

108 of the designs come from Raynquist's Belt Balancers book (fall 2025 edition), a 2.0 collection that covers 1 to 1 through 9 to 9, larger configurations and lane balancers. The other three, 1 to 2, 2 to 1 and 2 to 2, come from an older 1.1 book because they are single splitters. Here every configuration has its own page and string, so you copy only the one you need.

Which game version are these balancers for?

108 strings were exported from Factorio 2.0.69 and three from 1.1.53. This site decoded each string and checked its entities and size against the preview, but did not import them in the game. Strings exported by the 2.1 experimental version were left out because they may not import into 2.0.
